One of our PhD students, Sofía Lopez, recently attended the International Conference of Conservation Biology (ICCB) 2017 in her home country, Colombia. Prior to the conference, she led a workshop that focused on identifying new opportunities for biodiversity conservation in Colombia’s post-conflict era. The recent peace agreement with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) provides an opportunity for strong economic development, but also poses a threat to biodiversity if mitigation measures are not put in place.
Sofía discusses how the workshop provided a platform from which to grow her professional network and learn about cutting-edge research being conducted in the region. To hear more about her experiences, take a look at her blog post.
